Day 4-Luxembourg and to the ship

Day 4..Luxembourg and to the ship

Suitcases tagged and outside the hotel room door at 6:30, assemble in Lobby at 7:20, load the busses and off to Luxembourg. The country and the main city have the same name.Luxembourg is the richest country in Europe, eclipsing even Switzerland. The prime industry is finance (aka secret bank accounts.)

Once we arrived, we had a shortened tour of the highlights of the city. The guide did his best but we did the whole shebang in one hour. Had lunch with two other couples in a Braserrie.

We then drove to the American Military Cemetery in Luxembourg. The Battle of the Bulge killed 18,000 Americans, almost all buried in this 50 acre plot donated by the government of Luxembourg to become American property. After the war, most of the bodies were removed and sent to the states for reburial and there are only 5050 left here. The government shutdown also closed this site so we were not able to go in, a fact that really pissed us off. What does honoring dead soldiers have to do with assholes in Washington?

We got to the ship around 5:30 and got settled in. The cabin is everything promised. There are 187 passengers on board and enough highly trained crew to make us feel welcome.

We are located in Schweiss, a small village about 9KM from Trier.  We will be visiting Trier tomorrow.
