Marksburg Castle
The ship departed from Koblenz heading toward Braubach minus 80% of the passengers who went to tour the only castle in Germany that had never been conquered or destroyed. The Marksburg Castle was begun in the 1100's and expanded over the centuries. Even so, it was pretty damn small and must have been very uncomfortable for the inhabitants. We were able to tour literally the entire structure with a tour guide who was not too sure of her English.
The castle was built on top of and into a mountain. The entryway was of vertical slabs of shale that would potentially cripple a horse trying to charge through the gate.
At the end of the tour, we all bussed to Braubach and met the ship. A second group left the ship for a wine tour and the ship moved again, this time to Rudescheim. We picked up the wine tour group and motored off to Weisbaden. Get the drift? This is a happening tour.
Off tomorrow for Heidelburg! Wowsa!
